The most cost-efficient resource for health information exchange is a functioning electronic network that uses secure mechanisms to share patient health information between authorized providers. The primary facilitators of HIE activity are nonprofit, community-based organizations known as Regional Health Information Organizations or RHIOs. Each RHIO takes ownership of independent goals that best serve their specific patient population. FAR provides a unified voice and coordinating entity for regional collaboration.
